Eva Boehm, Director
I’m about to celebrate my 14 year as a breast cancer thriver and have been reflecting on all those that helped my family get through my own diagnosis, treatments, surgeries and much more. I moved to the twin cities with my husband in my mid-twenties. We didn’t have connections except through our jobs, but over time my ‘small town’ Ohio upbringing helped me build connections to make a large city smaller. Then when I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer, I was incredibly grateful for our friends and acquaintances that stepped in where my family could not due to distance and the travel expense. As I was sitting through my dozens of chemo treatments, I listened to the stories of others, learned about the services they were utilizing and how they found peace in the midst of personal, physical, spiritual, and financial storms that cancer causes. I knew how fortunate I was to have my wrap-around support of friends and colleagues that came over to clean my house, include my children in their carpools, provide meals, and the opportunity to have access to some of the best oncologists and nurses and surgeons in the country. Since my diagnosis, I’ve been quietly and patiently seeking an opportunity such as this to give back and be part of an organization that helps to provide services for those diagnosed with cancer.
Also, I remember reading Gilda Radner’s biography, “It’s Always Something,” in the early nineties and was captivated & impressed by how she wove humor into the unfunny business of her cancer journey. As a cancer thriver, I am so very aware of how important it is to experience all the emotions every day. I want to be part of Gilda’s team to help others feel supported, seen, and heard and offer space for them to laugh and cry, just as Gilda did.
Brent Johnson, Director
Gilda’s Club Minnesota has been my home for philanthropic involvement since I moved here four years ago. I was looking for a home base to give back to our community, and was welcomed to Gilda’s with open arms to get involved. The mission that Gilda’s is solving something that impacts every person in our local and state communities. I love that we have a focus to grow our reach as an organization and create a support community for anyone who needs it. I wanted to join the board at GCTC because I would bring a new perspective to the board from my past experience as a volunteer – from serving on the development committee for nearly 3 years, to leading our young professional’s future, helping with numerous past events, and constantly brainstorming new ideas with the Gilda’s staff to increase exposure and philanthropic engagement. I’m excited for the future of GCTC and mine with it.
