Hank’s Happenings: Sniffing Out Community Connections

Gilda's Club Minnesota September 26, 2025

Hi friends, it’s Hank, your favorite four-legged Emotional Support Specialist, reporting in with a big wag!

I’ve been keeping busy lately, not just at the Clubhouse, but also out in the wider community. One of my most recent adventures was joining the humans at Richfield’s Penn Fest. Oh boy, was that a treat! So many new friends to meet, so many hands for ear scratches, and so many opportunities to share the most important message of all: Gilda’s Club Minnesota is here for anyone impacted by cancer.

See, my job isn’t just to look handsome and nap in sunny spots (though I excel at both). When I trot through a crowd wearing my black vest, I help open the door to conversations. People pause for a pat on my head, and suddenly they’re learning that Gilda’s Club is a welcoming place where people can gather, connect, and find support at no cost to them, with no judgment, just community. That’s what makes these outreach events so special.

And speaking of special, have you seen my new look? We just got GCMN-branded bandanas in! I call them my Hank-erchiefs, and let me tell you, I look fetching. Even better, you (and your furry, feathery, or whiskery companions) can get one too. Whether you’ve got a pup, a kitty, a rabbit, or another sidekick, they’ll look pawsitively dashing in their own Hank-erchief.

Community is stronger than cancer, and I get to see that truth every time someone bends down to give me a scratch and walks away knowing that Gilda’s Club is here for them, or for someone they love. Together, we’re building awareness, wag by wag, smile by smile.

So keep an eye out for me at future events. I’ll be the golden retriever in a Hank-erchief, ready to remind everyone that no one faces cancer alone.

A golden dog sits and wears a red bandana with a Gilda's Club Minnesota logo printed on it in black and white.

Big wags and even bigger love,

Hank
