Community is Stronger than Cancer

Gilda's Club Minnesota March 16, 2026

Nearly 40,000 Minnesotans are expected to hear the words “you have cancer” this year. That number represents individuals. It also represents partners, children, parents, coworkers, neighbors, and friends whose lives shift in an instant.

Cancer does not happen in isolation. When one person is diagnosed, an entire circle is impacted.

At Gilda’s Club Minnesota, we are seeing that reality in real time. Member participation in our programs has grown by over 10 percent annually. And we know we are only serving a fraction of the Minnesotans who are navigating cancer today.

With growth comes responsibility. We are committed not only to sustaining our current programming, but to expanding it. That means more support groups. More opportunities for connection. More trained facilitators. More outreach into communities that have historically faced barriers to care. More space for people to gather, connect, learn, and get support.

We are reimagining what cancer support in Minnesota looks like. And we are doing it together.

Ninety five percent of our members say coming to Gilda’s Club has had a positive impact on their lives.

• 88 percent feel less lonely
• 87 percent feel less stressed
• 86 percent are less afraid
• 85 percent feel better able to face the future
• 83 percent feel more in control of their lives

Those outcomes are possible because our programs are offered at no cost to members. They are funded entirely by people who believe that no one should face cancer alone.

Join Us at an Upcoming Event

One way to support the Gilda’s Club community is by showing up at one of our upcoming events!

An Evening of Stars Gala
Join us on Thursday, April 23 at A’BULAE in Saint Paul for an elegant evening of connection, auctions, stories, and celebration in support of Gilda’s Club Minnesota. Reserve your tickets at StarsGCMN.Givesmart.com.

BDB Clay Shooting Event
In August, Bauer Design Build will host the eighth annual clay shooting fundraiser in Prior Lake, complete with a live and silent auction and community building. Stay tuned for more details!

Walk for Gilda’s
On Saturday, September 19, we will gather at Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis for our third annual Walk for Gilda’s. In addition to the walk, there will be a health fair featuring local businesses and resources focused on healthy living and cancer support.

This year, we are inviting the community to fundraise as part of the Wal for Gilda’s. When you raise funds individually or with a team, you will receive one free ticket to join us in person. It is a powerful way to turn your network into a force for good and to show that community is stronger than cancer. Registration will open this summer.

Your Role in This Story

You have the power to make sure every Minnesotan diagnosed with cancer, and every person who loves them, has access to community and support.

You can give – one time, or monthly
You can attend an event
You can fundraise
You can volunteer
You can introduce us to someone who wants to make a difference.

However you choose to engage, you are helping build a community where no one faces cancer alone.

If you have questions, ideas, or simply want to talk about how you can get more involved, I would truly love to connect. Whether you are considering a monthly gift, exploring sponsorship, thinking about joining a committee, or just curious about our work, my door is open.

This community was built by the community, for the community. And we need you in it.

With gratitude,
