Finding Support and Belonging
Julia’s Story
Julia’s journey began when she stumbled upon Gilda’s Club online, discovering that we offer virtual classes and support groups. This was particularly significant for her, as living in Duluth limited her access to such resources. Julie joined Gilda’s Club, hoping to find support not just for herself, but also for her mother who was bravely battling pancreatic cancer.
Tragically, shortly after her welcome meeting, Julia’s mother passed away. Feeling lost and uncertain, Julia believed she may no longer qualify for our services. However, to her relief, someone reached out and invited her to join the virtual Living with Loss support group. It was here that Julia found solace, surrounded by individuals who intimately understood her grief and pain. In this virtual space, she no longer needed to hide her tears or filter her thoughts – she found compassionate hearts eager to walk alongside her through the darkest moments of her life.
Julia shared that her initial nervousness and feelings of selfishness melted away during the first support group meeting. As everyone took turns sharing their stories, she realized she was not alone. The group provided a safe haven, where each member, though on their unique journey, shared a common bond of loss and grief. Through laughter, tears, and unwavering support, the Living with Loss group helped Julia navigate the grieving process, finding strength in togetherness.
