Thank You for the Memories – Gilda’s Club Volunteers
These past three months have been busy, from the breakfast to the volunteer appreciation event at Charlson Meadows. This year’s annual breakfast fundraiser was phenomenal! The program consisted of stories from our members, volunteers, a founder, our staff, and a member of our Medical Advisory Board.
Volunteers were the first people our guests encountered while attending the breakfast. You were a warm, welcoming presence. Volunteers greeted guests, checked them in, hung up coats, set up the ballroom, and so much more. Further, volunteers acted as Table Hosts, inviting people to learn about our mission and give if they felt moved.
For weeks after the event, Gilda’s Club staff heard from guests how they were moved by the speeches and stories shared. Some attended with a donation amount in mind, then quadrupled it after listening to our members and speakers. We heard that this event was like no other breakfast prior. We channeled the spirit of Gilda Radner, whose cancer experience inspired the creation of Gilda’s Club, encapsulating humor, fear, joy, grief, and community.
Each day, our volunteers – you – are kind and welcoming, compassionate, and understanding.
Thank you to everyone that joined us at Charlson Meadows for the Volunteer Appreciation Celebration! The intention of this event was for volunteers to gather, reconnect, and renew. As a result, friends reconnected, and hopefully, new friendships began to bloom. I learned so many new things from our volunteers, like the possible origin of a Rolling Stones song, that some volunteers adore British shows, and there are a few movies I need to watch!
I look forward to the next volunteer social event, and I hope you do too!

Great Opportunities for Individuals
Clinic Ambassador
Gilda’s Club is seeking individuals interested in building and maintaining relationships with cancer clinics and service providers in the Twin Cities to create awareness of Gilda’s Club Minnesota (GCTC) and our program of support. The person in this position is responsible for the following:
- one or more clinics, building and maintaining a relationship with clinic contact(s).
- provide an overview of GCTC’s programs.
- maintain and update an inventory of GCTC materials at assigned location(s) at the beginning of every three-month program cycle or as requested.
- Positions are available in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Shakopee, and Coon Rapids.
Gilda Greeters
A Gilda Greeter is often the first person someone with cancer or their family member talks to at GCTC. They are the first impression of our program. Gilda Greeters welcome members into the clubhouse physically and virtually. These positions are scheduled for 12-week periods, coinciding with each new calendar period (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December). Greeters can start at any time during each period.
- In-person Gilda Greeter shifts are typically 3-4 hours long. In-person Gilda Greeters welcome members, sign them in for classes, and work on various other tasks.
- Virtual Gilda Greeter shifts are 30 minutes. These greeters welcome members to zoom classes, sign them in, and turn hosting capabilities over to the facilitator.
Signing up for open Gilda Greeter shifts will be switching from the Gilda Greeter Open Position form to a new platform. Stay tuned for this launch!
