Hank’s Happenings: Finding Comfort in Change

Gilda's Club Minnesota March 17, 2025

Hey there, friends!

It’s me, Hank—your furry, four-legged clubhouse companion, always here with a wagging tail and a warm heart. I’ve noticed something lately: Change is everywhere. It can be big, like starting a new treatment or moving to a new place, or small, like the seasons shifting outside (I love snow, but I won’t complain about a good sun patch, either). And let’s be honest—change can feel ruff.

I may not understand everything about doctor’s appointments or tough conversations, but I do know this: when things feel uncertain, a little comfort goes a long way. That’s why I’m here! Science even backs me up—studies show that spending time with dogs like me can lower stress, reduce anxiety, and even help with feelings of loneliness. Our presence can release oxytocin (that’s the “feel-good” hormone!) and decrease cortisol, the one linked to stress. Basically, a few pets, cuddles, or even just having me around can help make the uncertain feel a little more manageable.

When things are changing, I like to stick to what feels familiar—finding my favorite cozy spot, greeting my favorite friends (that’s all of you!), and enjoying the simple things, like a good belly rub. Maybe for you, comfort looks like a warm cup of tea, a chat with a friend, or just taking a deep breath and knowing you’re not alone. However you navigate change, I’ll be right here, ready to listen (or just sit quietly beside you, if that’s what you need).

So the next time life feels a little wobbly, come find me at the clubhouse. I’ll remind you that even when things change, one thing stays the same—you are loved, and you are never alone. And if all else fails, well… I give some pretty great hugs.

Paws and love,

Hank
