Seasons of Giving & Gratitude

Gilda's Club Minnesota September 18, 2022

Volunteers have been active these summer months by leading classes, working on the beautiful gardens surrounding the clubhouse, welcoming members into our community, and creating stunning cards. Summer tends to be a socially busy time of the year with the warm weather and various seasonal activities, so I am very grateful to everyone who volunteered this season. Each person has a powerful impact on the Gilda’s Club community!

Thank YOU!

Thank you for virtually and in-person welcoming new and old members into the clubhouse. Thank you for sharing your expertise and experience with members and staff. Thank you for creating beautiful and peaceful gardens for everyone to experience. I enjoy sitting in our gardens during breaks to listen to the birds sing and water fountains bubble. Thank you for your determination to find contacts at hospitals and clinics. Thank you for being amazing advocates of Gilda’s Club Minnesota. Thank you for bringing joy, laughter, and the spirit of Gilda Radner to our community.

Thank you to the volunteers at the 4th Annual Bauer Design Build Clay Shooting Event. This was a unique annual event where we could spread our mission and values with the community. Thank you for championing the work at Gilda’s Club Minnesota.

Corporate Support

United HealthCare visited the clubhouse in August to learn how we support the community and custom-made gratitude and sympathy cards. These cards were designed and made into kits for a group to complete by our Card Making program instructor, Wendy Peterson. She has taught classes here since Gilda’s Club Minnesota opened in 2014. Attendees of her card-making course love attending each week and taking home three beautiful, ornate cards. Thank you, Wendy, for volunteering your time, materials, and talents. Thank you, United HealthCare, for taking the time to assemble and decorate these cards that will be mailed to those in our community.

Great Opportunities for Individuals

Gilda Greeters – In-Person and Virtual

A Gilda Greeter is often the first person someone with cancer or a family member talks to at GCTC. They are the first impression of our program. Gilda Greeters welcome members into the clubhouse physically and virtually. These positions are scheduled for 12-week periods, coinciding with each new calendar period (January-March, April-June, July-September, October-December). Greeters can start at any time during each period.

  • In-person Gilda Greeter shifts are typically 2-4 hours long. In-person Gilda Greeters welcome members, sign them in for classes, and work on various other tasks.
  • Virtual Gilda Greeter shifts are 30 minutes. These greeters welcome members to zoom classes, sign them in, turn hosting capabilities over to the facilitator, and answer questions.

Clinic Ambassador – In-Person

Gilda’s Club is seeking individuals interested in building and maintaining relationships with cancer clinics and service providers in the Twin Cities to create awareness of Gilda’s Club Minnesota (GCTC) and our program of support. The person in this position is responsible for the following:

  • one or more clinics, building and maintaining a relationship with clinic contact(s)
  • provides an overview of GCTC’s programs
  • positions are available in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Shakopee, and Coon Rapids
